Safety
Schmidt Electric Company, Inc. (SEC) strives to provide a safe and healthy work environment for every employee while abiding by all federal, state, and local regulations.
To help make our approach to safety effective, SEC has adopted a robust workplace safety program. The objective of this program is to reduce the frequency and severity of incidents and injuries. To be successful, such a program must embody proper attitudes towards incident prevention among management, supervisors, and employees. It also requires cooperation in all safety and health matters, not only between supervisors and employees, but also between each employee and their fellow workers.
SEC’s safety program is led by a full-time safety coordinator and is supported by a representative of Engineering Safety Consultants (ESC). Both are valuable assets and are well-versed in the latest safety best practices and OSHA regulations.
Our safety program is fully supported by all SEC employees and includes the following:
- New employee training
- Weekly jobsite safety inspections
- Weekly “toolbox” talks
- Classroom training on:
- CPR/First aid (5 hours)
- Electrical safety (4 hours)
- Trenching and excavation (4 hours)
- Confined spaces (4 hours)
- Fall protection (2 hours)
- Lockout/tagout (2 hours)
- Forklift safety (2 hours)
- Classroom training on (continued):
- Scissor lift training (2 hours)
- Hazard communication (2 hours)
- Scaffold training (2 hours)
- Jobsite safety (JSA) (1 hour)
- Fire and fire extinguishers (1 hour)
- PPE (1 hour)
- Weekly safety meetings (1 hour)
- OSHA 10 (10 hours)
- OSHA 30 (30 hours)
- NFPA 70E
