Schmidt Electric provided new electrical service and system construction for the Norman Hackerman Building at the Austin campus of the University of Texas. The seven-story, 297,641-square-foot research and teaching facility provides education in biomedical sciences and organic chemistry. It features a 25,000-square-foot vivarium that achieved LEED Gold certification. 

The electrical scope of work included:

  • 3,00 kilovolt-amp, liquid-filled substation transformer 
  • 5,000-amp, metal-enclosed switchgear double-ended substation
  • 1,300 kilowatts of emergency power generation
  • 15-kilovolt metal-clad switchgear
  • Two, 5,000-amp 480/277-volt main switchboards
  • Two, 2,500-amp 208/120-volt busways
